The Purpose of SOSE
The primary purpose of the social studies is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.

Investigate the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines and the SOSE Essential Learnings required by the end of Year 3 on the Queensland Studies Authority’s website. Choose two Ways of Working and the framework for planning outlined in the early Years Curriculum Guidelines to plan an inquiry-based unit to teach a year 3 class the Knowledge and Understanding: Place and Space Essential Learnings: ‘Maps have symbols to represent places and identify the relative position of features including basic skills of mapping’. Include aspects of the General Capability: Information and communication technology competence for the students throughout this unit.
